Neothermal Energy Storage Inc. is a thermal storage innovator, helping homeowners make their boilers and furnaces more efficient and less carbon intensive with an add-on electric thermal storage (ETS) device to make the switch from oil to off-peak electricity.
The core technology inside Neothermal ETS was developed by Louis Desgrosseilliers during his PhD studies at Dalhousie University. We formed Neothermal Energy Storage in 2015 to commercialize this technology and offer consumers a better way to keep warm. The device stores heat using a salt hydrate: sodium acetate trihydrate. This commonly used and food-safe material is found in many products already, such as reusable hand-warmers you find in sporting goods stores and as a potato chip seasoning.
Neothermal ETS reduces the carbon footprint of homes by enabling central heating systems to use stored off-peak electricity for heating instead of oil by integrating with the existing system. As electrical grids increase their use of renewables every year, off-peak electricity becomes greener and cheaper. By providing peak-shifting for utilities, energy storage allows electricity grids to operate more efficiently and improve the management and capacity for renewable electricity generation. With Neothermal ETS, homeowners can take their first step in converting from fossil fuels to low-cost, off-peak electricity.
At Neothermal Energy Storage, we are committed to improving everyday living and have created a solution to make heating more affordable and energy conscious.
