We Store Heat in Salt

Neothermal's patent-pending heat storage cell technology distinguishes itself significantly from conventional brick Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) units currently available. We use the superior heat storage capacity of salt hydrate solutions to store heat with comparable heat storage density to brick ETS units. 

A key differentiation is that our heat storage cells remain below 120˚C, whereas brick ETS units reach internal temperatures up to 600°C. Lower operating temperatures are inherently safer and greatly simplify enclosure design.

Our heat storage technology has both short-term and long-term storage capabilities. Our unique ability to retain heat long-term without heat loss gives us a significant advantage over brick ETS units during unanticipated periods of low heating demand (fall/spring). 


How We Save You Money


Time-of-Day rates are a financial incentive offered by utility companies to encourage customers to use electricity during off-peak periods. The rates depend on the jurisdiction however, usually change based on the time of day, day of week, and season. For example, in Ontario and Nova Scotia the off-peak rates can offer significant savings of up to 50%.

Neothermal's heat storage cell technology stores heat during low rate periods and releases it during high rate periods.
